   The bright red, white and blue is what drew me to this keyboard which I refer to it as the Captain America keyboard if anybody needs one to use. While not fully corded which seems to be getting hard to find in stores around me, I don’t mind that it has a cable. The keyboard isn’t heavy, so if it needs to be taken on the road, it won’t weigh your bag down. It’s comfortable to use and the keys are on the quieter side which is good because I do a lot of work and streaming at night.

   I collect and review keyboards. Check my profile for tons of other keyboard reviews.I am not a keyboard key switching snob when it comes to keyboards so I never turn my nose at a membrane keyboard. Some of my most coveted keyboards are actually membrane switch based and this is quickly gaining love from me for how well the membrane switching is implemented on this keyboard.First we should talk about the layout. This is not a full sized keyboard, but it is also not a compact keyboard. Your basically giving up the navigation cluster (the home, end cluster that is usually above the arrow keys). What they have done here is taken that cluster of 6 keys out and moved the arrow keys so they are basically merged with the main keys and numeric keypad.To give the users that use the navigation cluster often some relief, they did add the page up and page down as well as a delete key above the keypad area, which is nice. Speaking of additional buttons there is a knob that also clicks. By default this is controlling the volume and mute function in Windows, but with some software you can remap this to do any function you wish.Construction wise, this is a plastic keyboard with plastic backing. Deck flex is present but not crazy, deck bounce though is almost non existent. The tolerances are tight on this keyboard, so much so that it is nearly silent when typing. Even the spacebar seems to have had some attention paid to make sure it does not clack any more than other keys. It is quite astounding for a keyboard in this price range to be built this good. Other features include two stage extendable feet which are rubber tipped and do a excellent job of keeping the keyboard from moving around on your surface. The keyboard is wired and has a USB-C connector. The cable it comes with is non-braided and nothing to write home about. It is white and a decent length for people that are running this to the back of a computer, but probably not long enough for someone that has a floor sitting PC and needs to go to the back side.This keyboard is backlit, but the RGB coloring of the LED’s is fixed, so the colors you see in the photos is the fixed colors — basically a rainbow. You can adjust the brightness and there is also a “breathing mode” where the brightness goes in and out. These keycaps are not shine through, so the lighting is only between the keys, at max bright though it is enough light to be able to see what the keys are, despite them not being lit up.I really like the layout of this keyboard. The three buttons at the top right (the added page up / down / delete) keys are more or less three buttons that I can re-program to my liking since the keypad is so much closer to the main keys now — it makes it way easier to just re-learn the page up / down / home / end buttons on the keypad (I am one of those that uses the navigation row often).The key quality is outstanding, both the actual key caps and mechanics. The labels are centered perfectly and are high quality. They mention using a new UV process to apply the labels and I think that is noticeable when you look really close, there is a sheen to the keys without having that transparent film look outlining the keys, something really close to laser etched but almost better since they are colored.I do want to touch up on the key actuation of these membrane keys. Membrane keyboards are tricky. You can make soft membranes that take almost no pressure to activate but that can lead to tons of accidental key presses, and often those are achieved using thinner rubbers which wear quicker. You can go thicker but then the keys start to get harder to press, which leads to fatigue when typing something long as you have to press so much harder to get the key to register, often resulting in missing letters.What we have here in regards to the actuation points and key feel is something almost perfectly in the middle. I could and have typed on this keyboard all day long. Hofotek hit the nail on the head when choosing the membrane configuration they did.The only downsides I can even remotely raise is the fixed RGB, but I really have to force that out of me as the price point of this keyboard is in a territory that it should probably not be in (it feels and looks more expensive). So here is my final thoughts. This is one of the best membrane compact layout keyboards I have tested this year, and also one of the best ones I have tested in a long time. Decisions were made when Hofotek designed the layout of the keys and what build quality they were going to achieve, and those decisions were all good ones.
